Lightning warnings the NWS won't give you
The National Weather Service issues no public warning for cloud-to-ground lightning — the single biggest day-to-day hazard for crews on tank farms, loading racks, cooling towers and open structures. We alert you in time to clear personnel before a strike, and give an all-clear so they aren't standing inside longer than necessary.

Wind, flood and freeze at your numbers
Crane lifts, flare operations, cooling-tower work and turnaround scaffolds each have their own wind limit. Low spots flood, instrument lines freeze. You set the thresholds for each; we warn on each, delivered to EHS, the control room, security and contractors through the portal, app, phone, text, email or API into your plant notification system.
What a typical plant program looks like
Every program is built with your EHS or Operations lead, or another designee. Here is a common starting point for a single site; multi-site companies repeat it per plant with the thresholds each needs.
- Lightning: alert on cloud-to-ground strikes within 10 miles, warning within 5 miles, all-clear 30 minutes after the last strike inside the radius — to EHS, control room and contractor coordinators.
- High wind: warnings at your operational limits — for example, 25 mph sustained for crane lifts, 35 mph for scaffold work, 50 mph gusts for structural concern — with onset and end timing, issued 60 minutes or more ahead for thunderstorm wind and days ahead for large-scale wind events.
- Tornado and severe thunderstorm: site-specific warnings with expected arrival time when the plant is in the storm's path; null-warning notification when the NWS polygon includes you but the storm does not.
- Flooding, hard freeze and winter weather: heavy-rain and flash-flood warnings for the site, freeze warnings at the temperature and duration that matter for your lines, and winter-weather timing for shift and turnaround planning, days ahead.
- Hurricane and tropical: site-specific tracking and impact timing for Gulf and Atlantic coast plants, with wind-onset windows for shutdown sequencing.
- Delivery: portal and push alerts to EHS and the control room, live phone call to the shift supervisor for anything crew-critical, text and email to security and contractors — and an API feed into your plant-wide notification system if you have one.
- Heat (WBGT or heat index): advisories and warnings at your activity or work-rest thresholds on either scale — WBGT by default for outdoor crews and athletics — per site.
- Wildfire: advisory when fire-weather conditions are expected to threaten the site or its access routes; warning when an active fire's location and expected spread put the site at risk, with timing and an all-clear.

Do you warn for lightning?
Yes. The National Weather Service issues no warnings for cloud-to-ground lightning. SiteWarn alerts you to strikes within a custom radius of your site with enough lead time to move people and protect equipment, and tells you when it is safe to resume.
