Every campus, every field, every game — watched by a meteorologist.
An NWS warning can't tell emergency management whether to move 30,000 people, or tell the athletic director whether Saturday's kickoff holds. SiteWarn™ monitors every campus, stadium and field individually, 24/7/365, and gives your team lightning, tornado, hail and wind warnings with the timing to decide — plus a meteorologist on the phone when the call is close.
Trusted for 14 years at more than 400 sites in all 50 states, with a 100% client renewal rate.
Customized for a single site — or for a command or operations center monitoring hundreds, even thousands, of sites from one screen.
Why universities choose SiteWarn
A fully customized program: you set the thresholds, we watch the weather.
Lightning warnings the NWS won't give you
The National Weather Service issues no warning for cloud-to-ground lightning — the hazard your students and athletes face most, on practice fields, at games, on quads and in outdoor labs. We alert athletics and campus safety in time to clear the field, and tell them when it's safe to go back out.
Campus by campus, field by field
A main campus, a medical campus, a satellite site and a stadium across town rarely face the same storm at the same time. We monitor each individually so the shelter order goes to the buildings that need it and the rest of the institution keeps working.
Game-day and event timing
Delay kickoff or play through? Clear the stadium or hold? SiteWarn gives event operations the arrival time of lightning and severe weather at the venue, updates every few minutes as the storm evolves, and a meteorologist on the phone for the decision.
Fewer campus-wide shelter orders that weren't needed
When an NWS polygon includes a campus but your campus isn't threatened, emergency management gets a null-warning notification — so you don't send a shelter-in-place to 30,000 phones for a storm that isn't coming, and people keep taking the alert seriously when it's real.
What a typical university program looks like
Every program is built with emergency management and athletics. Here is a common starting point; each campus and venue carries its own thresholds and contacts.
- Lightning: alert on cloud-to-ground strikes within 10 miles of each campus and venue, warning within 8 miles, all-clear 30 minutes after the last strike inside the radius — matching NCAA guidance.
- Tornado and severe thunderstorm: campus-specific warnings with expected arrival time, 30–45 minutes ahead, when a campus or venue is in the storm's path; null-warning notification when the NWS polygon includes a campus but the storm does not threaten it.
- Game and event coverage: dedicated monitoring for home games, commencement and outdoor events, with a meteorologist assigned and reachable by phone throughout.
- Hail, high wind, flooding and winter weather: warnings at your thresholds for outdoor events and facilities, flash-flood guidance for low-lying areas and crossings, and winter-weather timing days ahead for closure and delay decisions.
- Delivery: portal and push alerts to emergency management and campus police, live phone call to the on-duty decision-maker, text and email to athletics, facilities and event staff — and an API feed into your campus mass-notification system so SiteWarn warnings go out through the channels students already know.
- Heat (WBGT): advisories and warnings on Wet Bulb Globe Temperature at the activity thresholds your athletic association uses — practice modification, rest breaks, cancellation — per field and venue; heat index available if your policy calls for it.
- Wildfire: advisory when fire-weather conditions are expected to threaten the site or its access routes; warning when an active fire's location and expected spread put the site at risk, with timing and an all-clear.
- Hazard Matrix for emergency management: your campuses grouped into regions you define — a main campus, a medical campus, satellite sites — with each group's status for every hazard on one grid, so the emergency operations center reads the whole institution at once.

Questions campus emergency management and athletics ask
Do you warn for lightning?
Yes. The National Weather Service issues no warnings for cloud-to-ground lightning. SiteWarn alerts you to strikes within a custom radius of your site with enough lead time to move people and protect equipment, and tells you when it is safe to resume.
Can SiteWarn feed our campus mass-notification system?
Yes. Warnings can be delivered to your emergency management team through the portal, app, phone, text and email, and pushed into your mass-notification platform by API so they go out through the channels students and staff already use.
Can one program cover multiple campuses and venues?
Yes. University programs monitor every campus, stadium, field and satellite site with per-site thresholds and a group rate, and deliver warnings to unlimited staff. Single-site programs start at $99.95 a month; multi-site discounts apply — ten sites does not cost ten times one.
Do you provide game-day coverage?
Yes. Home games, commencement and other outdoor events can have a meteorologist assigned for the duration, reachable by phone, with lightning and severe weather timing for the venue updated throughout.
What does the Free Live Trial involve?
We set up your real campuses and venues, thresholds and delivery methods and monitor them exactly as we would for a paying client — no credit card and no obligation. Most sites are live the same day; overnight requests are set up the next morning.
